So you want to Bake For the Quake?

Hello, you talented baker! Here’s what you need to do

1. Check this page for the list of low-risk baked goods we’d love to see at the bake sale.

Let’s kick it up a notch, Vancouver! Decide on which products to bring that amount to at least $150 in net sales value.  As a Baker for the Quake, you commit 50% of the sales for donation. ** [Price of goods are rounded to the dollar.] That means half table needs to have a $150 worth of goods if 100% of sales will be donated to this worthy cause, or $300 if you’re donating 50%, and so on. You may choose to either donate or keep the remainder 50% of your sales.

If you decide to keep a percentage of your sales and don’t sell out your entire inventory, we will only get the percentage (50% or more) that you specified at the time of registration.

2. Decide which table space you need:
(1) 8-foot x 30-inch table: $50
OR half  the table (4-ft x 30in) to share: $25 ** Yes, gather a few friends to share a table!

If you’re donating 100%, whole table minimum (gross total cost of goods) is $300 and half table minimum is $150.

3.  Gather 2-3 photos of your baked goods that represent the quality of your products. Blog posts and links are welcomed.

4. Describe the packaging you plan to use (e.g. small box, paper cup, cellophane bag, etc). Use new, clean, single use packaging such as plastic wrap, foil, wax/parchment paper, zip lock bags, cardboard bakery boxes, domed serving trays, clam shell containers. Please make sure these are food-grade.

5. Send an email to Joy at gourmeted /AT/ gmail /DOT/ com with the following info:

  • Full name
  • Contact number
  • Expected gross total of of the goods you’re committing to bring ($150 min per half table if donating 100%, $300 per half table if 50% donation),
  • List of all the products with packaging info and their individual prices
  • Photos or links of baked goods (please send the exact links!) – If you are bringing allergy-specific food, e.g. gluten-free, nut-free, please specify)
  • Percentage of your sales you would like to donate
  • Twitter name + blog URL (if you have them)
  • Business identity  or brand name, if you have one.

DEADLINE for sending your application is April 8.

Tables are limited and are on a first come, first served basis, so act quickly!

** 100% of table costs and (at least) 50% of sales will go directly towards Bake For The Quake’s goal of raising $5,000.

It’s all in the name of charity, dear friends! Thanks for your effort and support!

If you would like to be a Sponsor, please contact Melody at mel /AT/ gourmetfury /DOT/ com.

Regarding FOOD SAFETY…

Addendum [March 29, 2011 1:43pm] If you’re not sure if your product is “low-risk”, please contact Vancouver Coastal Health and ask them if your food item is allowed for sale at a one-time bake sale event. Thank you!

Addendum [March 31, 2011 11:45am] Regarding Food Safety: We have consulted with the Vancouver Coastal Health regarding our event since mid-March. One-off bake sales are not sanctioned by the VCH. That said, we still provided an email confirmation to the Roundhouse rental office provided by our point of contact at the VCH, Senior Environmental Health Officer, David Jantzen.
