Yumiko’s “Nippon Makeruna!” (Japan, don’t give up!) Prints
Yumiko is a Vancouver born Japanese-Canadian, working as a freelance animator. She likes theatre, sign language and turkey stuffing. How cute!
Take a peek at her beautiful illustration that she dedicates to Japan. She has donated these signed and numbered prints to Bake for the Quake. Be sure to say hi and see her work, up close and personal. They will be available at the event on April 20th.
A personal message from Yumiko:
For the past month, I’ve been selling prints of a picture I drew for Japan titled “Nippon Makeruna!” (Japan, don’t give up!). I initially drew it because I felt distraught and useless in the days following the disaster in Japan. Drawing surprisingly made me feel better as it expressed how I felt from the other side of the Pacific Ocean.

Requests for prints have turned into a fundraising effort and I thank events like Bake for the Quake for bringing together individuals, who are using their own unique and personal talents, to support the relief efforts in Japan. We’ve all been moved to help in the best way we know how, and I’m looking forward to being amongst those who show their love for Japan through the art of baking. It’s too bad my prints aren’t edible though!
Hope to see you there, and thank you kindly!
